Turnhead Distributors

Essmueller designs and builds turnhead distributors for many different material needs. We offer round and flat-back designs in 60°, 50° and 45° slopes and sizes from 6” diameter to 48” diameter with capacity of up to 120,000 bushels per hour. These turnheads are available in manual and electric controls. Our standard model features the (TE) dust tight enclosure or with the (IIG) explosion-proof enclosure per customer request. Electric models can be ordered with our optional “Smart” control package that moves the turnspout in either direction for the shortest route to the selected spout. Our unique flat-bottom design allows us to seal the space between the turnspout and outlet opening to minimize dust accumulation inside the turnhead.

This design also allows us to offer a 360° rotating seal in our round turnheads which covers all inactive outlet spouts. To ensure a long life and lasting performance, we offer wear liners in urethane, abrasion-resistant steel and ceramic hex tiles. All turnheads are equipped with large access openings in the main body and drive housing to ease maintenance and routine inspections. Essmueller’s standard housing construction is carbon steel with a quality enamel finish, however we do offer a hot-dipped galvanize or stainless steel construction. If you have a special need that is not listed on our website, please contact our sales department with your specific needs. Below on the left you will find a graphical representation of our “Smart” turnhead, while on the right you will see the three main types that are used today.

A. Abrasion Resistant Steel (ARS) inlet
B. Rotating upper seal
C. Upper Turnspout
D. Upper Housing
E. Lifting Lugs
F. Turnspout shaft
G. Spring loaded lower seal

H. Upper Flange Bearing
J. Outlet Thimbles
K. Weather tight drive housing
L. Flexible Dust sock
M. UHMW sliding seal
N. Band-it straps

In addition to turnhead distributors, Essmueller also offers a directional bin vent system that can be paired with one of our 360° turnheads or as an independent “stand-alone” system which has a dedicated drive unit and does not connect to the turnhead. Our bin-vents are designed to aid a material flow by ensuring air displacement from the bin being filled, as well as functioning as a dust collecting system in reducing the density of suspended dust material.

The turnspout distributor is synchronized with the bin vent so that dust is drawn from the selected bin that is to be filled with material. To achieve the most efficient dust collecting system Essmueller recommends the use of our 360° revolving seal to pull the “dust laden air” from the selected storage container being filled rather than all containers that are connected in the system. Below is a graphical representation of how a system might be used.
